Boyle Motor Company began selling cars in 1933 as a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership. The company was a subsidiary of Boyle Construction Company, whose principals were E. B. Boyle, Barnes Boyle, Sr., and S. F. Stoudemire. From 1933 until 1941, Boyle Motor Company sold not only Chrysler-Plymouth but also Packard and Willys cars. In 1940, the motor company dropped the Chrysler-Plymouth franchise and took the Oldsmobile-Cadillac and GMC truck franchises. Mr. R. D. Blanding was the general Manager during this period.

In 1942, because of World War II and no new cars being built, Boyle Motor Company closed. The building was turned into a bowling alley and teenage canteen during the war. After World War II, the company reopened as the Oldsmobile-Cadillac-GMC dealership, with Lester W. Allen as general manager. In 1949, Barnes Boyle, Sr. died, and Barnes Boyle, Jr. became the owner. He was joined in 1955 by his brother, Ladson Boyle.

In 1971, the company moved from their Main Street location, where they had been since 1939, to 2540 Broad Street. They left the Toyota dealership, which they had acquired in 1969, on Main Street. In 1978, the company acquired the Mazda franchise and became the Oldsmobile-Cadillac-Mazda dealership. The Oldsmobile franchise was dropped in 2001 as General Motors made the decision to phase out the brand.


The dealership went through some changes in 2003. A renovation and expansion of the showroom and offices was completed in the spring. Murdoch Walker, Jr. a long time associate and General Manager, retired in the fall and Ladson H. Boyle passed away on September 29th. Barnes Boyle, III became the dealer that summer and assumed the role of General Manager when Mr. Walker retired.


In 1996, Boyle Mazda was awarded the Mazda "President's Award of Honor." This award is given to the top 25 dealerships in each of four size categories. The award winners are selected by their customers through a nationwide survey process. The award is based on customer satisfaction with the sale and delivery experience, the condition of the vehicle at delivery, and satisfaction with the dealership service experience. Boyle Mazda is rightfully proud to have been selected for such an honor.
